Why Spices

Spices are fragrant or strong-flavored plant parts that are used in small amounts in food as preservatives or in cooking. Spices are usually distinguished from other plants which are used for similar purposes, such as medicinal plants, scented vegetables, and dried fruit.

Spices are the most valuable merchandise in pre-colonial times.
Many spices were used in medicine, but now they are reduced.

Spices were one of the reasons why Portuguese explorer Vasco Da Gama reached India and Maluku. This spice also caused the Dutch to follow to Maluku, meanwhile, the Spanish under the leadership of Magellan had already searched the way to the East through another road, which was through the Pacific Ocean and finally landed on the island of Luzon in the Philippines.
